108 interview

108 is back... and how! Fuck, their new album "18:61" is one big hardcore explosion with some of the heaviest and most mellow parts these guys have ever written. Want to know where the songs get their intensity from? Just read this email interview we did with Vic DiCara...

PRT: Probably the question everyone wants to know more about… on your Wikipedia page it says ‘On March 23, 2010, before the release of 18.61, it was announced that Rob Fish had quit the band which led to the demise of the group’. What’s up with that?
Vic: Jesus fuck. It's on the god damned WIKIPEDIA page? What wikipedia page (anyway)? Yo. We have not broken up. Click here to read the scoop!

PRT: When you dropped “A New Beat From A Dead Heart” in 2007 you already said that it was more of a continuation of 108 rather than a reunion. Were there already plans back then for more albums?
Vic: yeah. no. we don't plan. we act. you can tell that we don't think things out - for better or for worse. we are making new music NOW.

PRT: We’re three years later and you’re back with a new album called “18.61”. What inspired all the activity these last years after a decade of silence?
Vic: It took a decade of silence to hold us back. Well, actually it took a decade of silence for things to MAKE SENSE. I'm not sure if people really understand what a mind trip it is to actually try to become enlightened and liberated from material existence. It is a huge, huge, huge thing. It took us a decade of silence to let the rubble fall into place and the dust to settle so we could see things clearly again and once again make progress in a way that the external world could see.

PRT: You guys live spread out all over the place. How hard is it to write an album that way and then to get together and record the whole thing in a single weekend?
Vic: It's not. It's fun. Most bands that live on the same block just noodle around all day long or whatever. Blah, boring. When we get together we explode and the big bang happens. It is more fun that way.

Safe – Not Alone

The Razors Edge #2 with Ray Cappo

LA, California 1989, We're Not In This Alone tour.
Ray, I noticed that you talk about vegetarianism a lot on your latest album?
Well, I think for the most part its one of the most necessary thing to live a decent life that most people really neglect. One line in the song "No More" is, "so No More just looking out for myself/When the price paid is the life of something else." That's the basic concept. People in this world are just looking out for number one instead of others, and that's a big factor in why the world is falling apart, serving themselves. When we start having compassion for something else is when we can start having a real change, a real change for the better.

108 reforms after Hellfest replacement shows

108 has announced plans to continue performing and writing new material. The band, who called it quits over a decade ago, was scheduled to perform at the cancelled Hellfest with "the original and essential members" Vic DiCara on Guitar and backing vocals, Robert Fish (Rasaraja) on Vocals, Trivikrama dasa on Bass and Chris Daly on Drums.

DiCara had this to say: I was surprised how many people said that before the shows they were confused about our motivations for playing shows again - thinking, "If 108 aren't Hare Krishnas anymore, why would they want to play those songs again?"

Omkara Promo CD and mp3

Omkara: Finally we have something for you to listen to. We have prepared 3 pieces, which give you a foretaste of our forthcoming (since what seems like forever) album. The tracks are not in their final version, thus they're labeled promo/demo.

Beneath you'll find these pieces in mp3 format recorded in good quality of 192kbps. If anyone should be interested in the CD itself, we will have it with us at Polish Woodstock Festival, and when we get back (and if there would be any left) you may still order it by writing to us at omkara@omkara.pl

Hardcore Preaching

>It's not the hard-core music that does it at all. People may join
>because they like hardcore music, shelter, etc, but they soon leave
>again because Krishna consciousness is not at all about hardcore or
>being a rock star...

First of all I want to tell you, hardcore has nothing to do with being a rock star. That's what hardcore is all about rejecting the rock star attitude, not to drink, not to be a bastard. It's about taking care of your self and others. to show respect and compassion to all living things. It's not about being some star the feels his better than everyone else. i think you got it all wrong. If you had been to a hardcore show you would have understand.

>You will never become Krishna conscious by listening to hardcore
>music. It is sense gratification.

I think Ray Cappa (singer of Shelter), Vrahja kishor das (guitarist of 108), Porcell (guitariist of shelter) and a lot of others has proved that you can become Krishna conscious by listening to hardcore. What they practicly are doing is chanting but not to the ordinary Indian music but to hardcore punk music.

Terror Zone "Self Realization" CD

Terror Zone "Self Realization" CD. Yet another great release from Gain Ground Records (Fury of V cd), is this TERROR ZONE CD. The cd has a few songs from the demo as well as a 2 songs from their 7" on Eye Ball records. Songs include: Dead Calm, In Mind, Self Realization, Killing Need and Lord Of Wrath. Call it Krishna if you want but the music is fuckin amazing. Ex singer Kevin from BULLDOZE really adds some meaning to the lyrics with music to back him up. If you're into the heavier sounding hardcore bands, pick this CD up.

108 to Play Hellfest 2005

Almost a decade after their final show at CBGB's in NYC, 108 will play a one-time set at Hellfest this year, on August 19 – 21 at the Trenton Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, NJ.

Although the lives of the members of 108 have certainly changed the purpose of 108 remains the same: to play music that comes straight from the soul. We are playing a show again, ten years later, because we want the opportunity to once again transform our inner struggles, conflicts, and hopes into a form of music that pierces all illusions and awakens a mystical, spiritual awareness in ourselves and in our listeners.

Nyshynga

Nyshynga has been playing for 5 years, but most of the members started to play earlier. The band has been vegetarian and drug-free since the very beginning. Nyshynga has recorded full length CD entitled "The highest class of killing" (If you want to buy it, write to us: concubine@o2.pl) and a demo CD which includes 5 songs. The process of recording "The highest class of killing" was finished in 2002, but the band didn't publish it on its own until this year.
In the songs from the band latest demo there is a female singer who has already become an integral part of the band. Nyshynga is trying to play as many concerts as possible and it doesn't matter if they take place in small clubs or they are big festivals.

Texas Is The Reason - Blue Boy

"Blue Boy"

So you're expecting me to just sit back down and let me pass this by. you want it all to be sussed out without ever really trying. maybe with you on my side, i'll be able to reach the sky. you think you finally figured it out. me, myself, i'll never learn. you think you finally figured me out. me, myself, i'll never learn. maybe with you on my side, we'll be able to reach the sky. you finally found me.

AUDIO: Blue boy

Interview: Porcell

It's human nature that people tend to fear what they don't understand. If you walk into a dark room, you'll feel anxiety because you don't know if there's anything in there that can hurt you or not, but as soon as you turn on the light and see that everything is fine, the anxiety goes. That's how I think it was with Shelter at first. People had no idea what the Krishna beliefs were, and unfairly labeled it a cult, boycotted shows, wrote inane crap about what they "thought" we were about in zines, etc. Over the years though people became much more accepting of it, to the point where practically every kid in the scene had neck beads on and "Krsnacore" became the rising wave. Basically I think kids took the time to read the lyrics and found them to be thoughtful and a lot of people actually agreed with the anti-materialistic message. Either way, I didn't really care, I was a punk rocker from very early on so I've never been one to care about the status quo, plus I actually liked debating people for hours on end, I should've been a lawyer.

Inner Revolution

The title INNER REVOLUTION represents the struggles that we face throughout our lives. We are torn between our original identities as spiritual beings and our temporary identities as material beings. This duality causes great pain and suffering. I find that the material ultimately leads us to more pain. This is what brought me to search for the spiritual. INNER REVOLUTION is about where my quest to find the spiritual has lead me, and some of my thoughts, realizations, and feelings that I have come across along the way.
